Mr McFall's Chamber - Dave Heath Commission
Mr McFall’s Chamber is an ensemble based in Scotland. We frequently perform and commission new pieces. We have also tried to expand our audience by going into nightclubs and other non-classical spaces and playing music which is on the edge between classical and other styles – rock, jazz, tango, klezmer, cabaret, folk.
The award of £5,000 by the PRS Foundation supplements an award from the Scottish Arts Council and enables us to commission a new chamber opera from the composer Dave Heath for performance in Edinburgh, Glasgow and London in the spring of ’07.
The opera, the production side of which is to be minimal, is to be set in an orchestra, with the “orchestra” on stage and taking part in some of the action. The opera focuses on the stresses and strains of life on the road with an orchestra. It is both satirical and tragic.
Undertaking a project of this magnitude is a challenge for our small organisation, and we are very grateful to PRS Foundation for helping to make it possible.
