Matthew Wright

Matthew Wright

Matt Wright works as a composer and turntablist at the edges of concert and club culture, his output stretching from music for solo baroque instruments to large events combining Djs, live musicians and digital images.

As a DJ he is a founder member of the international electronica trio MTK and has worked with The Apollo Saxophone Quartet, The Duke Quartet, Joanna Macgregor, London Flutes and Vamos! (UK), The Maarten Altena ensemble, SOIL and De Ereprijs (Netherlands), and ELISION (Australia). His work has been performed across the UK, The Netherlands and France, broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and in 2001 he wrote the title music for Channel 4 Television's Teenage Kicks series in association with Affirmation studios.

This PRS Foundation scholarship is a dream come true and has made it possible for Matthew to continue a Phd in Composition at Goldsmiths College, where he is researching the role of the turntablist as an ensemble member and the compositional potentials of the internet.

He previously studied with Richard Steinitz and Christopher Fox at The University Huddersfield, Steve Martland in London, and Louis Andriessen, Martijn Padding and Richard Ayres at The Royal Conservatory, Holland.

The relentless support of The Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, SPNM, The PRS Foundation and Vamos! have made it possible for Matt to be a composer.

He is currently Lecturer in Commercial Music at Canterbury Christ Church University, where he also leads the urban music ensemble 'Contact'.
