London Sinfonietta

London Sinfonietta 3 The London Sinfonietta is one of the world’s elite contemporary music ensembles with a reputation built on the virtuosity of its performances and ambitious programming. It is committed to placing new music at the heart of contemporary culture and pushing boundaries, through regular collaborations with choreographers, video artists, film-makers and commissioning new work. Since its foundation in 1968 it has commissioned or premiered over 200 works. Its 2008-2009 season will feature world premieres of new pieces by Thomas Larcher, Nigel Osborne, Dominic Muldowney, John Woolrich and Harrison Birtwistle.

The London Sinfonietta was one of the first UK orchestras to explore the creative space where artistic and educational experiences meet and continues to break new ground in this field.  The innovation and creativity experienced on the concert platform is reflected in the ensemble’s participation and interaction programme, which gives young artists – including the recently formed Culture Collective - the opportunity to work with the ensemble in a creative environment.

The London Sinfonietta is a Resident Orchestra of the Southbank Centre in London with its headquarters at the newly-opened

Kings Place
in north London. It continues to take the best contemporary music to venues and festivals throughout the UK and worldwide with a busy touring schedule. It also has an acclaimed discography including seminal recordings of many 20th-century classics on numerous prestigious labels, as well as its own London Sinfonietta Label.
