Cambridge Folk Festival

The Cambridge Folk Festival is one of the longest running and most famous folk festivals in the world. This annual four day outdoor event is funded and organised by Cambridge City Council Arts & Entertainments, on a non-profit making basis, and has recently received a second Government Chartermark for Excellence.

Since 2002, funding from the PRS Foundation has supported the Club Tent at the Festival. It has enabled Club Tent to become re-designated as a New Songwriters Stage which is dedicated to new music and a new songwriters platform with all artists, specifically booked by the Festival, performing original music alongside new arrangements of traditional folk material.

This funding also supports the Showcases of five young, up and coming, largely unsigned UK artists in the Club Tent. At least one Showcase will appear on the main bill the following year. All receive substantial publicity benefits, advice and support from the Festival and are targeted towards promoters, managers and record companies. The Festival runs a series of popular workshops in the Club Tent. As well as instrumental workshops, these include a high proportion of songwriting, performance and professional development workshops.
