Some of the most exciting new artists to emerge from the UK will be taking to the stage as part of a special showcase after winning the 2004 Unsigned Awards.
Six bands in the South West region of England and Wales have become the first acts to receive an Unsigned Award, courtesy of Fopp, the PRS Foundation for new music (PRSF) and Clear Sound & Vision. The bands will be performing in Bristol's latest music venue, The Metropol on 3rd February 2005.
The Unsigned Awards received a high volume of applications from across the region when it was launched early last year. The successful acts, The Barnaby Ray Quartet (Penzance), K-Diff Syndicate (South Wales), The Room Orchestra (Cardiff), Angel, Iles & Morris (Midsomer), Tanya Walker (Cardiff) and Psychic Spies (Mid Glamorgan), were given time to record at a professional recording studio by the PRS Foundation for new music to produce a high quality EP, before working with Clear Sound & Vision to learn and participate in the design and manufacturing of their CDs. The finished products are now on sale in Fopp stores throughout the UK.
Since winning the award, the bands have gone from strength to strength and have been busy with gigs and radio sessions and members of The Room Orchestra even featured on Goldie Lookin' Chain's new album Greatest Hits.
The Unsigned Award is a four year commitment that was developed to offer real support from new bands and musicians at a grassroots level. The second year of the initiative will launch in March 2005 and will be open to unsigned bands and performers based in Scotland, N. Ireland and the North of England. Click here for further details.
