1 March 2004
The PRS Foundation and Bliss Trust are continuing their drive to support adventurous and talented new composers by offering more grants for professional development in 2004.
Their jointly funded scheme, which is aimed at the contemporary classical sector in the UK, offers special one-off grants of up to £500 to help emerging composers with costs relating to promotional recordings, travel, study at a summer school, commissioning costs, computer equipment or instruments.
In 2003 The PRS Foundation and Bliss Trust successfully helped 16 emerging composers to advance their professional careers under the scheme.
David Francis, PRS Foundation Manager says “The PRS Foundation is pleased to have enabled this important opportunity to support new talent at a time when funding of this kind for individuals is scarce”.
Sarah Faulder, Chair of the Bliss Trust adds “ Sir Arthur Bliss was well-known as an active champion of young composers so it's very appropriate that the Trust continues this work in his name to support the next generation of composers”
Composers can view the scheme's guidelines and download the application form from www.prsfoundation.co.uk or by requesting information and an application form from 0207 306 4228.

NOTES TO EDITORS
ABOUT THE PRS FOUNDATION
The PRS Foundation (PRSF) is the UK 's largest independent funder purely for new music of any genre. It is an artistically driven organisation which primarily aims to promote and support the creation and performance of all genres of music and to help people enjoy and understand the new music they experience.
In order to energise the new music landscape in the UK , PRSF directs its support towards creatively adventurous and pioneering musical activity.
In just under 4 years, PRSF has successfully funded over 1000 new music initiatives, to the tune of nearly £5million. Its funding and partnership activities have enabled many ground-breaking collaborations and projects. In addition, PRSF actively supports new music projects throughout the UK , which help to inspire musical creativity in young people.
Please note : Although The PRS Foundation receives generous support from the Performing Right Society Ltd, the Foundation is a separate entity and a registered charity. We would therefore appreciate it if you would credit support for funding to The PRS Foundation and not the Performing Right Society Ltd.
ABOUT THE BLISS TRUST
