Chairman, London Sinfonietta.
Anthony Mackintosh was born in Norfolk to Yorkshire parents. After a conventional private school education and National Service, he studied economics and business at University before joining the family confectionery firm, John Mackintosh & Sons, in 1964.
After working as European Commercial Director for the new Rowntree Mackintosh Company, Anthony decided to leave corporate life in 1973 in order to undertake smaller, more personal enterprises. With friends, he established Dingwalls Dance Hall - a live music venue, restaurant/bar in Camden Lock, which is still very popular as a music and comedy venue today - and then Zanzibar, a members club in Covent Garden.
These ventures were sold in the early eighties while he set up several new enterprises: acclaimed wine bar/restaurant, 192 Kensington Park Road and well-known media haunt The Groucho Club in Dean Street, Soho.
